Aren't we all prisoners?

Aren't we all prisoners?

Prisoners of time?

How nothing seems to change

From one day to another,

And yet when you look back

after months or a year,

It doesn't seem to be the same?

Oh, Wait.

Don't get me wrong here.

The very sights and scenes are familiar,

But the people who shared those days and laughter,

seemed to have...disappeared?

Aren't we all prisoners?

Prisoners of our memories?

Do you remember?

the evening skies, and the twinkling stars,

Of pockets of stillness spread afar.

Or

The cool breeze and the sound of the stream,

As you walked along the narrow street.

Or

Reminiscing the days, and finding solace,

When you see a happy face.

Or

The smile that unknowingly forms,

Seeing pictures that your room wall adorns.

Aren't we all prisoners?

Prisoners of our own thoughts?

How at times,

We let ourselves be defined,

By those who know us the least.

Fighting battles that are not meant to be fought,

Undoing and unlearning, that needs to be not.

We are all prisoners,

Caged by ourselves, more than that by others.

But trust you me,

And you too shall agree,

That only you can stop yourself,

From doing what you truly believe in.

They say things take the time they take,

Till then, do what you can before you can do what you want to.

And don't be harsh on yourself, there's just one of you!

Rewind

I had promised my friend(s) that I would soon put up a blog post. Here’s for you people  😉 Thanks for being ever patient, for the humiliation, for being stubborn, and for the constant nagging. You never know what works for me. I never know what would work but please continue with the same zeal as you have been. At least this way, I do end up writing one way or the other. And it does more good to me than to you. I cannot, however, promise how soon I will put up a detailed post for you about my stay in India this time but with your constant motivation and rebukes, I am sure it will see the light of day soon. First things first, it was lovely meeting you all after all these years. And it feels good to come back to the city and still find you guys there. And a little cherry on top, those of you who were not in the city had to be in the city because of work from home conditions. And a few of you just happened to be there on a given day or made sure you were there. Either way, know ...

Year Rewind, 2016!

It is impossible to summarize what a year this has been. Here’s still an attempt to try and paint a realistic picture (much needed for myself at least :P) > As a northerner, I should have been a happy soul returning from the land of south But that was not really the case. Ask anyone, who knows me, and they can tell you there wasn’t/hasn’t been a single day I wasn’t cribbing about being at Gram. And as odd as it might sound, I had a greater cultural shock returning back from south where I had gotten myself used to the idea of idli, dosa for breakfast and a little spicy food with ubiquitous drumsticks that were served as a part of any meal, served any time of the day. That was still manageable, I’d say. But to adjust myself to the people here (who are characteristically cold, caustic and street smart), the weather (that is perennially smoky, hazy and dusty), the roads (that have pot holes which would be filled with layers of mud, brick powder and then fly ash, all equally usele...

Friends - Blessing in Disguise

Friendship doesn't happen in a day. For me friendship is many small things and perhaps it should be this way. Friendship so far has all been about sharing tiffins, morning assembly, recess games, collecting notebooks at last, drawing margins, blackboards, paper balls, land line calls, pushing, running in corridors, window seats, reading longer stanza/para, canteen, random talks, school bus, long walks, copying and telling, pen fights, labs, manuals and files, name-place-animal-thing, bingo, mangoes and oranges, cards, bands, key-rings, side wise glances, winks, silent smiles, notes, assignments, novels, quizzes, prizes, deep/intellectual discussions, late night studies, for the love of TV series, plays, art-exhibitions, charts and models, mimicking, ridiculing, birthday treats, last minute gifts, texting, random chats, mails, pictures, trips and ...     As i sit and recall, a school bus passes in fr...
